11 Outrageously Indulgent Healthy Chocolate Recipes
If you're a self confessed chocoholic, you're not alone. Many of us crave the sweet, rich creaminess that only chocolate can provide, but did you know there's a healthier way to get your chocolate fix?
So you may have heard on the rumor mill that chocolate is actually good for. This is actually true, but the chocolate we're referring to is not the Dairy Milk or Lindt kind (sorry guys!), it's the raw ingredient Cacao.
What is Cacao?
Chocolate can be made out of two different ingredients, cocoa powder and raw cacao powder. While the difference between the two just looks like a typo, they are very different. Cocoa Powder (think what your Mum used to make choccie crackles) has been roasted at a high temperature which often breaks down the good enzymes, destroying all the goodness it once had. In contrast, raw cacao is the result of a process of cold pressing the cacao beans, meaning it hasn't had to undergo any added heat.
Raw cacao isn't naturally sweet, it has a bitter taste so may take some getting used to. But once you do, the store bought blocks of chocolate will actually seem too sweet!
5 Health Benefits of Raw Cacao
- Great source of Magnesium which is important for healthy muscles and nervous system
- Highest plant based source of Iron
- 40 x the antioxidants of blueberries
- Higher in calcium than cows milk
- Naturally elevates your mood and acts as an anti-depressant
