Review: Does Chocolate Tea Actually Taste Like Chocolate?

Chocolate Tea Review

The rumours are true, chocolate is good for you! Cacao, the natural ingredient in the chocolate we love so much is packed full of goodness making it the highest plant based source of iron with 40 x the antioxidants of blueberries (as well as a number of other benefits you can read here).

So, maybe you've used raw cacao before, but have you ever heard of Chocolate Tea? No? Well neither had I, so I was super keen to try it for the first time on camera in my first ever video review.

All my reactions are genuine, as my face isn't very good at lying. I'll share with you now, it doesn't taste like hot chocolate. That's not to say I don't like it, but thought it was best I put that out there before you continue on.

Key Take Aways

What Is It: I was expecting a chocolate powder or chocolate bits mixed in tea, but it's simply just cacao husks (the outside of the cacao bean that chocolate is made from).

Benefits: Like raw cacao (powdered form), it's high in iron, antioxidants and magnesium and acts as a natural mood booster which is the perfect pick-me-up for the 3.30pm slump. It's caffeine free, vegan, gluten free and sugar free.

How To Use: Add a couple of teaspoons to a tea strainer and let it steep (or brew) in a cup of boiling water for 5 minutes.

The Verdict: It doesn't taste like chocolate and it doesn't taste like tea. It's very bitter and tastes better with a splash of almond mylk to mellow out the bitterness and make it a creamier consistancy (but I'm also a milky tea lover). Note: I didn't use a homemade version in the clip, but you can make your own using this almond mylk recipe. It also recommends adding coconut sugar but I didn't have any and I don't usually add sweeteners to drinks, but this would definitely help with the bitterness (remember coconut sugar is still high in fructose). Chocolate tea is something I would drink, but it definitely wouldn't be for everyone!

Thanks to kkao co for gifting me the tea to try. They did not pay for this review, I was just keen to share my experience trying the product for the first time!
